Project Overview
Planned Systems International (PSI) and its team are addressing the challenges facing the Defense Health Information Management System (DHIMS) Program Office. Specifically, PSI is developing web modules in support of the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA). PSI’s team, is investigating and implementing new solutions such as Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), web-based modules, and design patterns all with the goal of creating more reusable code that can better fit into new needs that arise in the future.
PSI Services & Results
PSI is currently adapting existing AHLTA functionality as well as new enhancements to be encapsulated in non-proprietary web services. In addition, PSI is seeking opportunities to abstract business rules from the client code. PSI is taking every opportunity to advance the technology behind the features being enhanced under this project. AHLTA contains a blend of VB6 and Microsoft .NET code and PSI is actively migrating much of the VB6 code to .NET as new features are being created or enhanced. Note that AHLTA Theater is a completely separate application, complete with its own code base, which is written entirely in VB6. PSI will be enhancing this application as well and will continue to develop against VB6 for this effort, as no .NET code exists for AHLTA Theater. Team PSI has established an internal source control server and a requirement, feature, and defect tracking infrastructure as well as a Configuration Management (CM) system compliant with our documented CM process. Coupled with a continuous integration (CI) process, these components allow PSI to maintain structured version control and to track issues and enhancements in a timely manner. This infrastructure was also established in a way to permit any enhancements made on either AHLTA or the separate AHLTA Theater application to be migrated with little additional overhead.
