Project Overview
A structured, phased initiative to package, relocate, and reestablish the AHLTA development and testing environments from the current site to PSI’s new location. Management and operation of networks and computer centers today represents about 25% of a typical large organization‘s total IT costs. With the associated management oversight responsibilities relating to maintaining high availability and assuring strong security postures, managing a major relocation has taken on increased importance. Directing a complex data center move is anything but easy and to assure that everything is done right, a move requires careful planning, expert execution and experience. But if poorly managed, this move can disrupt DHIMS business operations for days or weeks once the new site goes live. PSI has the expertise and approach to mitigate these risks.
PSI Services & Results
Environment Relocation and Hosting: Essential steps include: - Selection of a New Facility and Evaluation of the Build or Buy Choice — PSI is creating detailed plans that avoid the most common causes that a data center can become unsatisfactory over time, including power limitations, cooling limitation, space constraints, and lease renewal problems.
- Physical Move and Communications Planning— PSI is packaging, relocating, and reestablishing the AHLTA development and testing environments to new facilities. A relocation Coordinator is liaising between the current and new datacenters, bandwidth and commutations providers, domain registrars, and other vendors, as necessary, to ensure a smooth move.
- Networking and Security Planning — PSI is working with DHIMS to assure that all security plans and any SSAA documentation is updated to reflect the new environment.
- Planning for Shutdown, Reconfiguration and Restart of Services and Applications — We are working closely with DHIMS to incorporate a phased approach that allows the environments critical to support Tier III, DT&E, and critical development activities to be prioritized first.
- Initiation of Relocated Services and Transition to Hosting Sustainment — PSI will minimize the down time in re-establishing services.
