DEAN SMITH, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer

Dean is responsible for ensuring clinical requirements and perspectives are incorporated into health information technology projects and processes at PSI. He also assists with business development, particularity in the federal and overseas markets, and collaborates with medical leadership partners throughout PSI's lines of business.


He was the former Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary / Chief Medical Officer at the State Department and Senior Advisor for Medical Informatics. He led a team that implemented telemedicine at U.S. diplomatic missions worldwide and served as a physician to the Secretary of State as well as medical officer at U.S. diplomatic facilities in Iraq, Russia, and Peru.


Dean holds a B.S. from Seattle University, M.S. from Oregon Health & Science University, M.D. from Medical College of Wisconsin. He enjoys working the family farm near Bend, Oregon.


When he’s not at work? Dean lives in Arlington, VA with his wife Ilene, along with their very spoiled dog, a wire-haired Vizsla named “Pica.” When not playing tennis, biking, skiing and fly fishing, they spend as much free time as possible with family on their working farm near Bend, Oregon.
